Skimming the racks, searching out the best deals online and in-store... Shopping is more than a past time for me-it's my job. I enjoy every minute of it. But not everyone shares my enthusiasm when it comes to shopping.
"I've spent all day at the mall and left with nothing." "It's hard to find clothes that fit me." "I don't have a lot of time." I've heard it all too often.
Well, as spring approaches and warm weather begins, a change in wardrobe is inevitable. And some time this season, you'll probably find yourself picking up a few pieces.
Here are some tips I've shared with clients that may be helpful on your next shopping excursion.
1. Bring a shopping list. Avoid hours of roaming the aisles and get focused. Knowing what to buy will keep you organized and create a more efficient shopping experience.
2. Dress for your body shape. Whether you're a size 2 or 14 isn't so much the concern. Understanding your body shape is what matters. Some are straighter or more athletic built, curvy, or have broader shoulders. There may be some problem areas you'd like to de-emphasize. But the parts you do love, that's what you want to highlight. The goal is to find clothes that flatter you most.
3. Fit is everything. Forget the number on the label-even if it's the "right" size. Squeezing into anything too small will make you appear larger than you really are.
4. Stay true to your personal style. If skinny jeans aren't for you, don't buy it. If spring's neons are too much, then skip it. Truth is, not all trends will work for everyone. Buy what you love-pieces that make you feel confident. Trust your gut. It's usually right. If that fails, trust your personal stylist. He or she knows you best:)
5. Always try it on. Don't leave the store without doing so. Just know, every designer fits differently and your size may not be perfect. In addition, this will save you the grief of having to run back for a return.
Shopping should be a fun experience. Even if it isn't for you, my hope is these few tips will make it less intimidating and more enjoyable.
